SPECIAL REPORT! A Scene from the Spider-Man musical has been found!

BREAKING NEWS!

Yes, the Tonys are over, but we can’t stop caring about theater just yet. There are a lot of exciting things in the pipeline for next season (A Trevor Nunn directed A Little Night Music! Uncle Jessie in Bye Bye Birdie!), but nothing has made people scratch their heads quite as much as the imminent musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark featuring a score by U2. Will it be an origin story? Will the score be self-indulgent? Will it finally get straight boys to the theater? Will singing make Peter Parker seem even more like a pussy than he already is?

Hopefully a few of your questions will be answered, now. In what comes as ICBINS’s first ever journalistic coup, we have managed to come across a few pages from the script. Transcribed after the jump! (more…)

Getting Ready for an ICBINS Reading!

Target Nepotism Alert: ICBINS is doing a table reading of my play, “When You Die You Go To Target“. This is going to be an interesting experience for  me, so I thought I’d blog about the whole process. Hopefully we can get some some other people to blog about it from an Actor’s/Dramaturg’s perspective as well.

Right now the table reading is scheduled for June 28th. The actors will be sent their scripts on the 24th, a week from Wednesday. That means that I have ONE WEEK to do what I hope will be a significant rewrite of the script….

I Really Need this Job!!!

Most people have seen A Chorus Line, but I experience it on a daily basis.  I often leave auditions thinking that I am the worst auditioner ever.  I am a good actress but I never get cast.  It can be an incredibly frustrating experience.  If you’re not an actor you know how it feels too.  Especially in this economic climate.  Jobs in general hard hard to come by, and watching other people climb the ladder right next to you can be demoralizing.  I meet tons of people every day and I know that I have just as much to offer if not more than they do, but for some reason I am not the one in the shows.  They are.

So what am I doing wrong?!!

Sex is selling, perverts are buying!

Is this missing from your productions?

Is this missing from your productions?

It’s no secret that scantily clad ladies and bare-chested men have been drawing audiences to all types of media since Adam and Eve noticed each other’s naughty parts.

Even with a failing economy one thing remains constant….SEX IS SELLING

To Producers: If you’ve been struggling to get people in the seats it may be time to reevaluate the material you are presenting to your audience.   You need to be asking your writers a few questions before you decide to take on their projects:

Writers: Is your work inspiring? Is it well written? Would your renowned professors at that prestigious university you went to be proud? If you answered yes to these questions- that’s great, no no, that’s terrific!  But the question you should be asking is: Does your stageplay/screenplay contain two or more smoking hot women making out? Skim through your stage directions…is there sideboob?

Here are a few Statistics, after the jump:

Uninspired Playwriting: Lessons from Julia and Julie and Manny and Kanye

Like our “producing guru” Lauren, the idea of blogging was unappetizing to me. Not out of a crippling self-doubt, but general disinterest. Then I saw the trailer for Julia and Julie.

This was it! My inspiration! I, too, am a sad-sack, cubicle-dwelling drunk! I would simply emulate someone who was already famous and blog about it and get rich when it gets made into a movie! But who could I emulate?

In a case of perfect timing, it turns out Personal Hero Kanye West has just released a book of aphorisms titled THANK YOU AND YOU’RE WELCOME

The Corner Office – Pro Bono Advice from a Producing Guru

Producing Guru

Producing Guru

It gives me tremendous pleasure to introduce myself to the world of blogging.  To be honest, when I was first asked to be a part of the ICBINS blog my initial feeling was that of aversion and quite frankly annoyance, but my distaste for the idea has now turned into genuine excitement.  As you may know, my game is producing, and to keep my expertise a secret would be a disservice to aspiring producers everywhere.  I’m sure you’re aware that it’s not easy to succeed in this business, but I’m here to show you the way, to shed a little light on the path to victory if you will.  I’ve never considered myself a mentor per se, but the notion that there is someone more qualified than myself to brave this task is laughable at best… (more…)
